Cast & Crew Testimonials

THE CHERRY ORCHARD PROJECT combined the classic text with elements of secondary text, composed from the company’s recollections of resonant memories and transcriptions of dreams during the rehearsal process.

The morphing of text introduced a dreamlike quality to the piece - the textual additions at times fitting seamlessly with Chekhov’s words, at other times their content and style starkly juxtaposing with the original text, heightening a sense of dislocation. By staging the piece in an inhabited house it enabled a physical and visual dimension, while offering a deeper exploration into the perceived divide between the performer and the role. The juxtapositions of the “real” texts and the environs of a “real” house heightened dualities between the real and the imaginary; what is outside and what is inside, what is public and what is private.
